What brand of drill and bits should I buy my husband for Christmas?

I am looking to buy a nice drill and bit set for my husband for Christmas... but have NO IDEA which brands are trustworthy when it comes to power tools.

Which would you recommend? I do not shop at Sears, so please don't say Craftsman. What brand of drill and bits should I buy my husband for Christmas?
For woodworking, I recommend a brad-point drill bit set, like these -

Look at the other images to get a good look at the difference between a brad-point, and a normal drill bit. The brad-point drill bit is easier to center on the work, tears out less, and doesn't 'skate', or wobble, as it starts to drill, like normal bits. Rockler has two brad-point sets available, the larger set, and a 7 piece set, that only costs about $20.

Titanium coated drill bits will stay cooler, and tend to stay sharper longer, but do cost more.

As to the drill itself, it really depends on how often he will be using it. Black %26amp; Decker is a decent brand, and a good choice for someone who does NOT use the drill every day. They'll tell you right on the packaging, its not intended for 'industrial' use (interpret that as meaning, you can't use them for everyday work).

DeWalt, Ryobi, Makita, Milwaukee, AEG, Porter Cable, and Bosch, are ALL good brands of tools you can use to make a living with. If your husband has any other tools by any of these manufacturers, then you might want to get the drill/driver from the same company.

Lithium Ion technology is a new type of battery for cordless tools, and it is gaining popularity with the manufacturers and consumers. It provides just as much torque, the battery lasts longer, and is lighter in weight.

Follow this link to Lowe's -

You can sort your choices (on the left) by Brand, price range, etc.. to get a good idea of the choices you have.

By the way - Kobalt hand tools (found at Lowe's) and accessories usually come with a lifetime warranty - I've been very happy with the Kobalt products I've purchased so far.

Milwaukee, Rigid, Bosch are about the top quality in power tools. In battery units you can add Makita, Ryobi, and as you drop down in quality, DeWalt, Panasonic and then just about any other brand. If you choose a battery operated unit, a set with a drill, saw and spare battery can run about $200. 18 volt system is all that is needed for home use. Several assortments of drill bits can be purchased as sets. The type of material worked will determine what type of bits you need. For wood a set of auger bits is best, for metal and general use, a set of twist drills is better. Small twist drills are basically disposable. If wood working a set of auger bits make the job much easier, try Rockler Woodworking, a great top quality source. Check their web page for ideas. Hope this helps.
Makita 3/8'; drills are a good (middle of the road) Craftsman is junk. AEG tools are great, Harder to find. Look at tool supply stores for them. Ive had my AEG tools for 20 years, somewhat pricey when l bought them but to last that long on job sites made them a steal in the long run. A Hughes Tool Supply may be near you. But quality you can't go wrong, Good Luck ,AEGtools.com
If your husband makes his living with these kinds of tool he will need the best you can afford. If he is a casual weekend user you can save a bunch of money by going middle of the road with black and decker tools%26lt;
Black %26amp; decker

dewalt, get a 3/8';V S R drill [Variable Speed Reversible]

if he just drills small things get a cobalt drill bit set

from 1/6'; to 1/2 inch [bit size,s]
My recommendation would be a Dewalt 18 volt cordless drill kit with an extra battery, a bit set that has lots of smaller bits (they break easy) and a Drill Doctor drill bit sharpener. He will love his gift much longer if he can resharpen his bits!
Black and decker are good . Craftsman is better Dewalt is also a good one. And do your homework I think most of them have some kind of warranty, Just check and see which one you think has the better deal with the warranty.
panasonic 15.4V,standard bit set(1/16 thru1/2';) nice as it gets!
Milwaukee..not cheap..but remember when you buy any tool or bits...cheap isnt worth it
